April-June 2008

We praise the Lord for his faithfulness and goodness to us here in Brazil. This month will mark six months for us here in Brazil.

In April, our container arrived from the States. Getting the container out can be a tricky process. The workers at the port can go on strike at any time. Yes, you guessed it, they went on strike as we were trying to get the container out. Praise the Lord that the strike was relatively short. We would like to say thank you to Bro. Charles Nichols for all of his help getting our things through customs. We would also like to thank Lighthouse Baptist Ministries and those who helped pack our container.

In our last prayer letter, we asked prayer in the matter of getting a vehicle. The Lord answered that prayer. We were able to buy a 1995 Volkswagon Golf. Used cars are three to four times as expensive here as they are in the States. We praise the Lord for providing the finances to purchase the car.

During the month of May, Pastor Chad Teal from God’s Way Baptist Church in Troy, AL came down with one of the men from his church. Bro. Teal was able to preach a number of times while he was here. There were people saved after several of the services. This was a wonderful time.

The Lord opened up a door of opportunity for us to give out the gospel in English. We were able to go to an English school here in Formiga to talk to the students. They asked us questions about America and about English. While we were there, I was able to give out the gospel to each class and invite them to church. Ingrid was able to give her testimony as well. We had three teachers and one student come out for the Sunday evening service. I preached in English, and Bro. Charles Nichols translated. None of the visitors from the school responded at the invitation, but two have expressed a desire to know more about Christ. Please pray that the Lord would give wisdom on how to proceed with this opportunity.

Wirley (Our language teacher) for salvation
That the Lord would continue to open doors of opportunity
Wisdom for us as we learn the language.
That God would call Brazilian men to preach the Gospel.
