January-February 2009

We just finished hosting camp this past February. The camp allows area churches to escape the wickedness that accompanies Carnaval. Carnaval is a Catholic celebration that occurs before Lent. Most cities in Brazil celebrate Carnaval. One day the parade is dedicated to homosexuality. There is no limit to the excess of immorality that occurs during this time. As you can imagine, many people seek an escape during this time. There were more campers this year than they’ve ever had. We praise the Lord for safety during camp. We also praise the Lord for the wonderful preaching and for a number of decisions that were made.

I have started preaching through Galatians on Wednesday nights in Portuguese. I have found this to be quite a challenge from the language perspective. The message of Galatians has been a challenge for the people. There are many groups preaching a false gospel in Brazil. It is good to be reminded how important the Gospel is, and how important it is to contend for the Gospel.

I was able to preach my first forty-five minute message in Portuguese in February. There was a young man there named João Paulo. He was very excited about the service. On the way home, I asked him if he understood the message. He said that he did. He came back the next service and received Christ. It is exciting to see his zeal for the Lord. He left for the Army right after camp. Please pray for João Paulo as he serves in the military.

Several other prayer requests:

- Pray that the Lord would open opportunities to share the Gospel
- Pray that the Lord would use us to win souls
- Pray for the Lord to raise up more preacher boys.
- Pray for us as we continue to learn Portuguese
- Pray for protection

Thank you for your continued prayer and support!
